Master class at University of Southern Maine - Corthell Hall 2/6/2024

On February 6, 2024 I performed a lecture recital about Spanish canciones and worked with seven young singers in front of a live audience at USM’s Osher School of Music in Gorham, Maine. It was a great honor to share my story and connection to Spain, as well as a history of Spanish art song and Spain’s greatest composers. The lecture recital, accompanied by USM’s Collaborative Pianist Professor Scott Wheatley, featured canciones by Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, and Antón García Abril. Additionally, Dr. Malinda Haslett, operatic soprano and USM’s Voice Department Chair, and I sang a duet by Camille Saint-Saëns, dedicated to Pauline Viardot’s daughters. It was an incredible experience to share and teach my favorite genre of music.

The students did a fantastic job preparing musically, and knowing the meaning of the poetry. The audience was also very positive and supportive of their colleagues, which is always great to see!
