“Spring in Winter” by Meghan Habibzai

My second instrumental composition for piano, violin, and cello. The recording features Marco Cremaschini, piano, Ayran Nicodemo, violin, and Joe Zeitlin, cello.

This song evokes the stillness of winter being interrupted by one day of warm sun, some green growth here and there, and prematurely melting snow. It’s also the feeling a glimmer of hope gives when you get a taste of Spring before the season has truly changed. The ascending bass line ostinato throughout represents that feeling of hope, along with bird calls in the violin, and a soaring countermelody played by the cello.
